The Mountains, the Giants and the Restoration of Earth Communication Pathways

You probably know that Schiehallion comes from the Scottish Gaelic Sìdh Chailleann and means the Fairy Hill of the Caledonians. The Caledonians were a Brittonic-speaking (Celtic) tribe in what is now Scotland during the Iron Age and Roman eras. I think the mountains belong to themselves and to the people who feel themselves rooted in this land. But I love that the Caledonians respected the fairy and made a connection with them just as the earlier people of the land and Neolithic people will have done. And I love this hill. In the world of mountain measuring, Schiehallion doesn’t quite make it to munro height but is triangularly and energetically mountainous and the headquarters for our Schie and the mythical land mapping of Scotland today.

When I was very young I was obsessed with giants. I would get every book I possibly could get my hands on on the subject of giants out of the library. Giants were a bit scary to me but they also gave me stability and a sense of safety and security. They made sense to me as beings. It wasn’t until I visited the Isle of Lewis in 2024 that I actually experienced an undeniable meeting with the giants in real life. I had experienced the energy of giants before, but I hadn’t realised that it was the giants that this experience was associated with. Giants are frequency holders and they create bridges between the dimensions humans are held in and the other worlds. The standing stones connect with and channel this frequency as do the mountains. When there are certain alignments with sun, moon and stars there can be openings where we are helped to move through these frequencies and connect with this bridge.

The reason I was on Lewis in 2024 was to visit Callanish for the ‘It is Written in the Stones’ Scottish standing stones course I was writing and leading. I had tried to visit 3 times before in my life but something had always prevented me getting there. Whilst writing the course and researching the stones, I had read all about how the stones could at certain times be the walking giants of the land. The only sailings I could get across to Lewis and back again were from and to Uig on Skye and it just so happened that the two days began and ended within the new moon in Virgo time. I was going to stay in my car and I had sorted out a camp bed and mattress that would fit, but last minute my mum transferred money for me to get an air BnB as she wanted me to have a more luxurious sleep. I managed to book a place just over the hill from Callanish on the ferry over which the person that let it told me later had just become available from a cancellation.

That night I was woken up by a phenomenal presence. It came in as a community of wide and vast pillars that seemed to reach down from higher in the skies than you can ever imagine. I was shifted into another plane that felt remote to my human sensibilities. I felt my body breaking down, a transmission that was otherworldly and had the sense of being utterly tiny and helpless. It was then that I realised it must be the walking giants and that this energy was likely the same as that which had pulled me into other dimensions in the past.

From mountains and schie to giants and stones then back to mountains. I used to live in Dollar right next to the Ochill Hills. When it was lockdown I spent a lot of time journeying, writing and tuning in with them. Years before I used to drive along the road past the Ochills and I would often be overwhelmed with emotion and begin to cry. I felt like I knew these hills. Somehow they were communicating with me. I absolutely knew that I would live by them one day. And then I did.

During the time I lived there I wrote the course ‘The Mountains Write through Us’ and also my ‘Bringing in the Mythical’ work came into being. For the course, I had to choose 5 different mountain, hills or mounds in the lands of Scotland. Schiehallion came through as the central one and as the leader of the course. I climbed it with my daughter on my dad’s birthday prior to writing the course and right on the apex of many changes in my life. It was a life changing day. Schiehallion and the other mountains have helped me to begin to really listen more deeply to the stories in the land and to understand more experientially the bardic way.

Now back to the Schie. I am now going back to 2013 in my memories. I am at the the shamanic teacher training in Santa Fe. It is graduation and I am standing in front of Isis, channelled by Sandra Ingerman ready to hold the hoop that will open me to the guidance and sustenance of the other worlds. The whole room has the chilling and clear atmosphere of an Egyptian temple and I trust Sandra’s embodiment and power to bring through the guidance totally. It is my turn to be greeted by Isis. ‘Hello’ she says with glee - ‘Why, the sprites brought you here! You are here to work with the sprites. They want you to help people to play!’ I was so surprised by this. I had always paid attention to the fairy and knew them as the transmission realms of nature. I had been teaching a course working with the fairy and the truth of the meaning of fairy story called MuseuM along with a story teller called Owen Pilgrim whose knowledge and experience of the fairy is superb. I had held fire walks at Beltaine and had people in masked fairy groups going deep into the fairy realms. And most people who liked my work said they liked it because it was deep but it was always playful. So it wasn’t strange to me but it felt so starkly simple to hear it spoken this way. I laughed out loud. Play is the way.

The traditions of old were led by bardic oracles who placed giants and fairies together in their folklore. Giants and fairy are often portrayed as memories of older, displaced tribes or defeated primal gods pushed to the edges of the ‘civilised’ world. Fairies and giants link closely to our landscape. In the stories of our land, giants are connected to large physical features like hills, valleys, and scattered boulders, while fairies more often inhabit mounds, rings, and stones. It’s nice to have these stories to help us to bridge the maps of today with the maps left for us by the bards who communicated with the beings and the many realms. The way to connect and understand is through our bodies being the vessel and the instrument for change. These relationships cannot be made through books or through listening to teachers tell us about it.

In my work I call myself a side-by-sider. Like you, I am just on the path of being open to find ways to listen and start to build myself back into a human who is a part of everything again. By being open to listen to the land and visit it, which I have to say is often in crisis, because human containers just are'n’t wide enough to hold us and often what our lives are showing us is a crisis in the wider stories, then we can start to let the way of the earth and the communications of the earth bound spirits and the way of the humans weave together again.

The way I love to do this is through being present then by journeying and also through writing. But there are many ways. This practice used to be known as the bardic way. Today we may be known as artists, musicians or writers, but it’s good to connect the words of the past with the words of the present because then we can be bridges like the giants and connect the past and the present.

A lot of our power as humans is cut off because we have been severed from the communication paths of nature and the earth. The good thing about this world of technology and fast communication is we can share about this and we can reach more people who are caring about the gap between nature and humans and want to find more and more ways to connect. The not so helpful and the hugely fragmenting aspect of the world of technology and fast communication and particularly AI is that it takes away the direct and urgent revelatory communication pathways between the humans and the many worlds. My mission is to use these pathways to flood the channels with even more exposure to the world of opening to the natural communication fields.

I was talking to my friend Katharine Lucy Haworth last week about this subject. (Check out her work Orange Blossom Oldways - she is extraordinarily intuitive and holds a powerful healing and educating space). I was saying that I think all we can do is to keep on helping people to have the chance to make their own connections with the land and the many worlds and use the channels provided by technology to show more and more ways to do this. Currently, we are living in a bit of a science fiction trope featuring robots. There has always been talk about the necessity for humans to lead the robots and not the other around. Really though I think it’s about the nature and land listening humans knowing how to stay strong and support a wave of consciousness that is earth, imagination and kindness progressive and be more present than ever. I have never been interested in money and business. I have always felt like my life would be wasted if I ever put that before living and helping make the world a better place. I owe that value also to my mum like the good night’s sleep on Lewis. I think the pushing of the current trends to make people spend more time advertising their work through constant presence on social media is awful. I never had to spend so much time on this in the past. But I need to keep being seen and be influential in helping what Joanna Macy called ‘the great turning’.

In the conversation with Katharine, our thoughts were that we have to above all support the emergence of all of those who share their work for the benefit of the planet and the rise in consciousness. A piece of my first ever guidance for what my work was about on my astro-shamanic training back in 2004 was ‘We all Rise Together’ and that it is only by creating a vibration of supporting mutual development for the greater good that shamanic teaching could ever be valuable. That is why I never work on platforms that make money from hiring the teaching of spiritual teachers and why I don’t support the work of shamanic practitioners who work with building an empire with their practices. The healing of our earth is a breaking down of the moulds that keep us separate from the land and the many realms of consciousness and the best use of the air waves is to be clear about the fact that this is what we are here for and we need to act quickly and urgently. And as Isis said on behalf of the sprites who brought me here - we also need to remember to play.

If you would like to be part of this movement I am holding a weekend workshop with the land in Falkland in a months time called 'The Mountains, the Giants and the Creative Force Within’ and an online Intro called ‘Shamanism for the Earth’.

I will be daily supporting the emergence of those whose work I deeply trust and that is in keeping with the support of the healing of the earth and the creative spirit of the times. Hopefully lots more will move in that direction then too.

Thank you to Schiehallion, the mountains and the way of the Bard. We all Rise Together.
